To improve the national information literacy and cultivating information-based talents is a fundamental of constructing information society. And the education in teachers’ information technology is a powerful strength in promoting the construction of information society. College English teachers’ information literacy is of particular significance in promoting current national college English reform and the nationwide educational reform. This article focuses on the definition and concept of information literacy, and explores the ways to cultivate college English teachers’ information literacy in China. The past decades have witnessed the boom and prosperity of Information and Communication Technology (lCT), which leads to education information and teaching revolution in all fields including English teaching and English learning. College English Curriculum Requirement (2007) also points out that the extensive use of advanced information technology should be encouraged, computerĀ­and Web-based courses should be developed, and students should be provided with favorable environment and facilities for language learning. Undoubtedly, as an inseparable part of modem English teaching and learning, college English teachers are supposed to be provided with good information literacy to meet the development trend of information technology education.

According to the definition labeled by ALA, information literacy can be explained on two layers of meaning: information awareness and information competence. The following will explore each of them in detail.
